A valid point. The influence of money is most certainly a factor in professional journalism, although to what degree, I do not know. I don't want everyone to think I'm anti blogs or wikis. I think they definitely have their place. CMS software and wikis are crucial to the development of free software and information, which I do believe strongly in, but there are certain things that I believe this form of technology may in fact do more harm than good. I believe that Wikipedia is a good source of information for simple, more general knowledge things, sort of like the things you'd need to know in order to be good at trivia. But there are other topics that I think it isn't appropriate for.

For instance, the entry on global warming. One of the main contributors to the entry on global warming was a 14 year old child, and when the entry was repeatedly changed by another Wikipedia member, the child complained and got the other member banned. The other member was a scientist who studies global warming professionally, and was changing the inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the child's entry. This all-united front can have strongly negative effects depending on the topic-at-hand.

All I'm suggesting is to be cautious. Don't put too much stock into open repositories of information like Wikipedia. They have their place, but their place isn't everywhere.

Something that restored my faith (trust? non-hate?) in Wikipedia is the following video:

http://weblog.infoworld.com/udell/gems/umlaut.html

My impression is that good intentions reign. After all, I'm much more cynical about the influence of money, and there's little of that in this world of anonymous journalism.

Well said! You know, I recently bought a computer specifically for DX10 gaming, so Vista was kind of a must. For all its failings, it was tailored for next-gen graphics, and a computer that can make use of those capabilities shouldn't have trouble running the OS anyway.

I do have a deep respect for open-source software. Half of my floor (unofficially) uses Ubuntu. I used to have it dual-booted with Vista Ultimate, but Vista threw a tantrum and refused to work unless I gave it the entire partition.

The Road has been on my 'to read' list for a while, and since 'No Country for Old Men' came out, I've been wanting to see it. Looks like I'm going to have to stop stalling and make some time!

Also, I'm betting Mr. Mortensen would act really well in a post-apocolyptic world. It seems like it'd fit his niche.

Please tell me more about your EXPERIENCE with the Eee pc. I found lots of links, but I want a pc that oulives the microsoft junk we use every day and that I can take to my bed... Is the software good? I looks easy to use, which is the least important since I already use an XP and a Mac, aand was a sofware tester but I want simplicity as I age and durability. Something I will not have to buy software for along time. I like to browse, write Journals, poetry, etc... and to blogs... That will be the use. Thanks

You are a senior.. I was confused. I thought you were a senior, "senior", and I thought " Oh, my God" she is studying at her age... and thought about going to study myself, something like what you are studying, which I did not take on when I could and then, I realized you meant senior "as in the last year". I happens. Good blog, I like it.
